On the range with John Farnam and Dr. Leonard Breure, attending the Defense Training International Advanced Handgun and Shotgun Course.

One-on-One Instruction, 2001

Even prior to the 2003 Minnesota Personal Protection Act, I was offering handgun permit classes.

Here I am coaching a student on the firing line at Armored Fire (now called Bill's North) shooting range.

Firearms Safety Training, April 1999

Here I am giving a free firearms safety class at the Dakotah Sports Complex during the 1999 Libertarian Party of MN Convention.  For many of these attendees, it was the first time they had shot a gun.

The "gun" I am holding in the picture is actually a plastic replica.  For safety reasons, I don't advocate handling of live firearms in the classroom.

Minneapolis Star Tribune 11/5/98

Working as a bodyguard for Jesse Ventura on the campaign trail had its moments, but nothing so crazy as the election night party at Canterbury Park!  Easily a thousand people packed the ballroom to share Jesse's victory.

From left to right: Tyrell Ventura, Jesse's son; Mae Schunk, Lt. Governor-Elect; Jesse Ventura, Governor Elect; Unknown relative of the candidates; Erik Pakieser, Ventura Security Team; Jade Ventura; Jesse's daughter.

St. Paul Pioneer Press 6/2/98

When a storm downed power lines and destroyed homes in Newport, Minnesota, my National Guard unit was called in to assist local law enforcement.

Iraq, 1991

My Army unit, the 984th Military Police Company of the 759th MP Battalion, was the furthermost deployed MP unit in the Persian Gulf War.

Here I am posing with an AK-47 after clearing a bunker complex just south of Al-Salman, Iraq.  Due to ammunition shortages, we had armed ourselves with captured AK-47s.

With the help of a French light armored unit in the area, my squad captured over 3000 Iraqi weapons and over 100 prisoners of war.  For these acheivements, the 759th MP Battalion was awarded the Meritorious Unit Citation.

Panama, January 1990

Here I am recieving a certificate from the Provost Marshal for my participation in Operation "Just Cause."

In addition to this certificate I also recieved the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal for his participation in that action.

My MP unit, the 92nd MP Battallion, recieved the Superior Unit Award.

Panama, October 3rd, 1989

On October 3rd, 1989, a unit of the Panama Defense Forces (PDF) attempted to overthrow General Manuel Noriega, the commander of the PDF and defacto leader of the country.  Noriega had seized power when he was indicted on drug-trafficing charges in the US.

While the coup was unsuccessful, downtown Panama City erupted into a wild gunfight, with Gorgas Army Hospital, where I was working, caught in the crossfire.  Fortunately no US soldiers were killed, but many members of the PDF lost their lives that day.

Noriega was eventually unseated and captured by US forces during Operation "Just Cause" in December 1989.
