Erik D. Pakieser

Erik D. Pakieser has always worked in public safety.  His law enforcement and security experience includes Military Police service, high-risk patrol in public housing projects, Federal facilities, and Corrections.  Erik has served with four different SWAT and tactical teams and logged over 40,000 hours of field experience.   An 11-year veteran of the US Army, Erik served in the 1989 Panama invasion as well as the 1991 Gulf War.  He also has experience with many aspects of the security industry, including colleges, healthcare, commercial, and residential security. 

Erik's experience in Emergency Management began when he left the active Army and joined the National Guard in 1992.  Through the Guard, he coordinated responses to local disasters.  In 2000, while working as a Corrections Officer in Minnesota, he was selected to develop the Department of Corrections Incident Management System (IMS) at the facility level.  He eventually went on to assist with the development of a department-wide Emergency Response Plan, and develop a training program to bring the Department into compliance with the Federal National Incident Management (NIMS) system. 

In 2006, Erik transferred to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, where he worked as a Radiological Emergency Preparedness Planner.  Three years later, he accepted his current position as a Principal Emergency Preparedness Planner for the Minnesota Department of Transportation.  
In 2009, Erik completed the requirements to become a Minnesota Certified Emergency Manager.

Erik has attended law enforcment training courses sponsored by the American Association of Certified Firearms Instructors, Kansas City, Missouri Regional Police Academy, American Society of Law Enforcement Trainers, Minneapolis Police Dept., Minnesota Dept. of Corrections, John Farnam’s Defense Training International, Israeli Instinctive Shooting International, and PlusP Technologies.   He has presented training for numerous Minnesota law enfrorcment agencies and private sector clients.  

As a recognized expert in field in hate/bias crime and terrorism prevention, Erik has been quoted in US News and World Report, The Minneapolis CityPages, UP! Magazine, and has been interviewed by Minnesota Public Television, WCCO Radio, and the Minnesota News Network.  Articles written by Erik have appeared in the Omaha World Herald and the Northeaster newspapers.  He has spoken to audiences at Augsburg College, the University of Minnesota, Inver Hills Community College, and Minneapolis Community and Technical College.
