Minnesota Permit-to-Carry Course
Answers to Frequently Asked Questions about the Minnesota Permit-to-Carry Course

This course satisfied the Minnesota requirements for obtaining a handgun permit.  Both the course and its instructor are certified by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA).  This training is guaranteed to be accepted by all Minnesota Sheriffs.

For this course, you will need a handgun, 30 rounds of ammunition, eye and ear protection.  I also recommend bringing a pen and paper to take notes.  Handguns are available for rent for this course.  Rental fee is $10.00 and includes ammunition.



Introduction to Handguns Course

While the Permit-to-Carry Course centers mainly on legal issues, this course is all about shooting.  This course is highly recommended for first time handgun owners or anyone thinking of getting a Permit to Carry.  Even if you are an advanced shooter, this course is a great way to practice your skills.

Topics covered include:
Fundamentals of Handgun Marksmanship
Loading, Re-loading, and Unloading
Firearm, Ammunition, and Holster Selection
Safe & Legal Storage of your Handgun


  Basic Handgun Tactics Course

This course features an introduction to using the handgun for self-defense.  This course is designed for someone who has their permit to carry and wants to sharpen their tactical skills.

Topics covered include:
Draw & Presentation of the Handgun
Administrative and Tactical Gun Handling
Conflict De-Escalation and Management
Post-Shooting Procedures



 Advanced Handgun Tactics Course

This course features a review of the basic program, and moves on to more advanced techniques.  This course is extremlely dynamic and designed for experienced shooters.

Topics covered include:
Use of Cover and Concealment
Shooting, Reloading, and Clearing Stoppages while Wounded
Alternate Draw and Carry Methods
Contact Shooting
Handgun Retention
Transition from Handgun to Secondary Weapons



NOTE: Required equipment for all Handgun Courses EXCEPT Permit-to-Carry:
Suitable Defensive Handgun (no .22 or target pistols).  No rental guns are available for this course.
Concealable holster (police and military personnel may use duty gear)
At least 250 rounds of ammunition
At least 1 spare magazine with a magazine pouch
Ear Protection, Eye Protection and a Baseball Cap
